The EU General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR) of 27 April 2016 on the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC This regulation automatically applies on 25 May 2018 after a two-year transition period. It aims to strengthen and unify data protection for individuals within the EU, while addressing the export of personal data outside the Union.
The EU Directive 2016/1148 on Network and Information Security (NIS) of 16 July 2016 concerning measures for a high common level of security of network and information systems across the Union. This Directive shall enter into force, through national implementing measures, on 9 May 2018.
To avoid the risk of severe penalties of up to 4% of global annual turnover or 20 million euros, all organisations based in or cooperating with the European Union must ensure compliance by May 2018.
